ALG-256, Quicksand Arch, Tissoukai Area Islet One. Large
opening, 5.6 meter span by 4.4 meter height; small opening 1.7 meter span
(all measured). GPS 32R 549722 2753826. From ALG-225
(Fin Arch), walk 400 meters west and leave Islet 2 via an obvious passage.
Cross the flat southwest 800 meters to the rock masses of Islet 1. Walk
across rock masses and spires 450 meters southwest to the top of a large
flat sand dune. The arch is located among the standing rocks. The wonderment
of this islet is outstanding. The standing rocks are enshrined with several
beautiful sand dunes. The largest sand dune reaches 40 meters in height.
At the top you can view the whole islet. |
ALG-254, Window Arch, Tissoukai Area Islet One. 2.5
meter span by 3.2 meter height (measured). This arch is located 100 meters
west of ALG-256 (Quicksand Arch) on the same large flat sand dune. |
ALG-255, unnamed arches 54/55, Tissoukai Area Islet
One. 1.5 meter span each (estimated). From ALG-254 (Window Arch), walk
80 meters northwest to the arches, located down a sand slope. The arches
are shown together in the photo. |
ALG-253, Three Level Arch,
Tissoukai Area Islet One. A triple arch. The largest opening has a 5 meter
height and the next largest opening has a 3.5 meter height (both estimated).
From ALG-254 (Window Arch), walk southwests 250 meters to this triple
arch, located down a sand slope. |
ALG-513, Domesticated Dromedary Arch,
Tissoukai Area Islet One. A double arch with heights of 2.0 meters and 2.4 meters (both measured). GPS 32N 549319 2753543. This arch is located 200 meters down the sand dune slope (north) of ALG-253 (Three Level Arch). The dromedary browsing behind the arch is not a wild one. It was used for logistics during a 20-day exploration of the remote Meddak region. The heighest of the two openings is not visible in the photo. |
ALG-258, unnamed arch 56, Tissoukai Area Islet One.
2 meter span (estimated). From ALG-254 (Window Arch), walk south 200 meters
to this arch. |
ALG-257, unnamed arch 57, Tissoukai Area Islet One.
2 meter height (estimated). This arch is located in the same area as ALG-258.

ALG-260, unnamed arch 58, Tissoukai Area Islet One.
2 meter height (estimated). From ALG-258, walk east down slope for 150
meters to the string of rock masses. The arch is located on the side of
these rocks and it is visible on the way. |
ALG-249, Dark Fin Arch,
Tissoukai Area Islet One. Largest opening, 5.7 meter span (measured).
GPS 32R 549578 2753534. From ALG-258, walk 250 meters south to this double
arch. |
ALG-250, Irou-Irou Arch,
Tissoukai Area Islet One. 13.4 meter span (measured). This arch is located
very close to ALG-249 (Dark Fin Arch). This is the largest opening of
Islet 1. Irou-Irou mean "long time ago" in the Tamahaq dialect. |
ALG-248, Balanced Rock Arch 2, Tissoukai Area Islet
One. 5.8 meter span (measured). GPS 32R 549675 2753335. From ALG-249 (Dark
Fin Arch), walk south 200 meters to this arch, close to a balanced rock.
The balanced rock is adjacent to the arch in the photo, on the left. Photo
taken in early morning. The name of the arch is Balanced Rock Arch 2 because
there is a Balanced Rock Arch in Sefar site (ALG-57).

ALG-251, Neighboring Arch, Tissoukai Area Islet One.
4.7 meter height (measured). This arch is located somewhere in the outskirts
around ALG-249 and ALG-250. The arch is easy to find. |
ALG-252, Side Fin Arch, Tissoukai Area Islet One. 4.5
meter span (estimated). This arch is located just a few meters from ALG-251
(Neighboring Arch). It is well hidden between two rock masses. The opening
is not accessable. |
ALG-259, unnamed arch 59, Tissoukai Area Islet One.
Larger opening, 2 meter height (estimated). This arch is located somewhere
in Islet 1. Explore the area to find this double opening. |
