Stan Jones, 1918 - 2007

The Natural Arch and Bridge Society is honored to present this Gallery
from the archives of the late Stan Jones, whose 40-year exploration of the Lake
Powell region earned him the nickname "Mr. Lake Powell." Stan
published annual maps of the changing shoreline of Lake Powell for
many years, as well as numerous books on the region, including Stan
Jones' Ramblings by Boat and Boot in Lake Powell Country. Stan served
for four years as a Director of the Natural Arch and Bridge Society and
led a special week-long tour of the arches of Lake Powell for NABS members
in October of 1992. The photos presented here were scanned by the webmaster
from Stan's original 2-1/4 inch slides. All photos were originally supplied to NABS by Stan Jones and now belong to the John Wesley Powell Museum in Page, Arizona. We miss you, Stan. [Stan's obituary] |
