Example Buttress Natural Arch
NABSQNO 12S-653098-4054469. This unnamed arch is a young buttress natural arch eroded through a projecting wall of Wingate sandstone. The lintel shows considerable excess rock, i.e., rock that does not redistribute weight. The opening is an upright oval aperture.
This arch is in a very remote area of the Navajo Nation. The services of a guide must be obtained to visit it. Because the area has spiritual significance, permission may not always be granted.
