Example Buttress Natural Arch

NABSQNO 12S-502219-4036505. White Mesa Natural Arch is an adult buttress natural arch with a half-semicircular aperture (pie quarter shaped) opening. It is considered adult because all of the rock in the lintel participates in weight redistribution, but the lintel is still massive. It has eroded through a projecting wall of Dakota sandstone.

White Mesa Natural Arch is located on the southeastern flank of White Mesa in northeastern Coconino County, Arizona. It is shown on most topographic maps of the area. Since it is on the Navajo Nation, the services of a guide should be obtained to visit it.
