NABSQNO 11S-396988-4051210An unnamed arch in Inyo County, California Photo by Jay Wilbur NABSQNO 11S-396988-4051210. This extremely photogenic abandoned natural arch deserves a name, but none has so far been successfully proposed. It is located in the Alabama Hills area north of the Whitney Portal Road a few miles west of Lone Pine, California. There are many small, but photogenic natural arches in the Alabama Hills. Like the one pictured, they are all eroded through granite. Because of its high scenic qualities, many movies have been filmed in this area. Visitors frequently continue west along the Whitney Portal Road to trailheads that lead into the Sierra Nevada range, including to the top of Mt. Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous 48 states. This arch is listed in the Vreeland catalog as number 21-16.
