Rooftop Arch
Rooftop Arch, with a 12 to 15 ft. span, is one of a half dozen arches found about 100 ft. above the Pilares Canyon (Horse Canyon) floor. The Aztec Chamber of Commerce may still provide arch hunters a detailed map of all the arches in their area. Take Rt. 173 east out of Aztec, N.M. for 12.5 miles, measured from U.S. Rt. 550. Turn left onto an un-marked county dirt road for 1/2 mile, then left again. This dirt track is parallel to Rt. 173, Bear right at the next road intersection to Pilares Canyon. This string of arches lies on the east side of the Canyon, scattered along the Canyon walls.
