Indian Head Arch

NABSQNO 12S-431295-3866565      MAP

Indian Head Arch is another large arch, with a span of 48 feet, located near Sedona, Arizona. In fact, it is very close to and visible from the highway through Oak Creek Canyon. Nevertheless, it is almost never seen by motorists because from the highway sky is not visible through the opening and it blends in with the surrounding rock. If you stop at the parking lot at Slide Rock State Park, go to the southeast part of the parking lot and look to the southwest up the hill -- and there it is! There is no trail to it, but it only takes a short hike followed by a short but steep scramble to get you up into the opening. The arch is on Forest Service land but you should avoid the private land below it. Photo by David Brandt-Erichsen.
