See Hole-in-the-Rock Arch. The "Hole-in-the-Rock" is a narrow slot in the cliffs above the Colorado River down which the Mormon pioneers lowered their wagons on their trip to colonize San Juan county in 1879 to 1880. If one proceeds down to the end of the Road, one can marvel at the ingenuity and muscle it must have taken to get the wagons down what appears to be an impassable route.
