Black Eye Arch
From Kayenta, drive north on Highway 163 for approximately 12 miles to mile post 408.4. For reference, when you cross over Laguna Creek on the northern outskirts of Kayenta, you are near milepost 396. Park on the east side of the highway on the apron of a dirt road near mile post 408.4 where the gate usually locked. From here, you can see Black Eye Arch in a basalt outcrop to the NE, about a half mile distant. Look carefully to the SE and you will see the Navajo Cube in brown, red , and blonde-banded sandstone, about a mile away. Walking out this dirt road might afford better views of the arches; please note, however, that you’re in the Navajo Nation, and wandering abut is not encouraged. The Rob strongly recommends that you do not walk off the public road right-of-way.
